X-Rays
A special X-Ray known as a Panoramic Radiograph is the most comprehensive and accurate
x-ray available for most Maxillofacial Surgery procedures. In order to provide high standards of quality care, we will require a Panoramic X-Ray for the vast majority of our patients.
Recent, clear, focused, original panoramic X-Rays are required to examine your anatomy, diagnose diseases, screen for tumors, explain the pros and cons of surgery, plan your surgery safely, and to insure we are treating you according to the standards of care for our profession.
The standard tiny general dental X-Rays are usually inadequate to evaluate and plan your surgery. We always evaluate any Panoramic X-Ray sent with your referral to see if it is appropriately focused. We need to take our own X-Ray for our records, but if the one sent to us from your Dentist or the hospital is current and appropriately focused, we will not charge you for our X-Ray. Please remove all facial/oral jewelry and piercings prior to your appointment as they cause X-Ray blurring.
Our office uses the latest digital x-ray technology to obtain your x-rays if possible. Digital x-ray technology allows us to enhance, manipulate, sharpen, make accurate measurements on, and draw on your x-rays. This allows us to come up with the most accurate diagnosis and the safest surgical plan possible.
All conventional plain film x-rays are less ideal than digital x-rays. If digital x-rays can be obtained, our office will always use them in order to provide the highest quality of care.
